Kids golf club size guide: what length by height and age

Club length follows height, not birthdays. Here is the height chart, how to measure at home in one minute, and why weight matters even more than length.

Find the right size by height

Measure your child first, then read across. The age column is only a hint: two five year olds can easily be a full size apart.

How to measure your child at home

One minute, a wall and a tape measure. No golf shop needed.

    1. 1

Measure your child, not the club

Shoes off, back against a wall, heels together. Mark the top of the head with a flat book and measure to the floor in centimetres. That number decides everything else.

    2. 2

      Check the wrist-to-floor distance

Let the arms hang relaxed and measure from the wrist crease to the floor. Two children of the same height can differ by several centimetres here, and the longer measurement means the longer club.

    3. 3

Do the grip test with a club in hand

With the club head flat on the ground and the arms relaxed, the top of the grip should sit around the waist or belly button. Higher than the chest means the club is too long, below the hip means it is too short.

Lengths and weights in the 3-5 set

    • Putter50 cm · 250 g

Heavier head so the ball rolls straight on a slow stroke.

    • Iron 757,5 cm · 270 g

The heaviest club in the set, and still lighter than most adult irons.

    • Driver63,5 cm · 210 g

The longest club, kept lightest so a small swing still gets it round.

All our golf clubs are specially designed for young children aged 3 to 5 years. They are perfectly sized for kids with a height between 85 cm and 110 cm, ensuring a comfortable grip, proper posture and an enjoyable first golf experience.

Why weight matters more than length

A club that is a few centimetres too long can still be swung. A club that is too heavy cannot. Children under 110 cm swing slowly, so a heavy head drags them off balance and they start pulling with their arms instead of turning their body. That is the habit that sticks.

    • Keep every club a young child uses under about 230 g on average across the set.
    • Weigh a club at home on a kitchen scale before you buy a second-hand or cut-down one.
    • Heavier is never better at this age. A light club that swings properly beats a real-looking one that does not.

When to move up a size

Most children stay in one size for about eighteen months. Move up when the grip sits clearly below the hip with the club head flat on the ground, when they choke down on the grip by themselves to control it, or when they start hitting the ground behind the ball on nearly every swing.

    Parent questions

What size golf clubs does my child need?
Club length follows height, not age. Under 85 cm a putter is enough. Between 85 and 110 cm the WOOW 3-5 set fits: putter 50 cm, iron 7 57,5 cm and driver 63,5 cm. Above 110 cm your child needs the next size up.
What age can a child start playing golf?
Most children can hold a club and make a controlled swing from around three years old, as long as the club is short and light enough. Below that age it is mostly about rolling and tapping balls, which the Spark Putter is made for.
Can kids use adult golf clubs cut down?
It is a common shortcut and it rarely works. Cutting the shaft leaves the full head weight at the end of a shorter club, so it feels even heavier in a child's hands and the shaft becomes too stiff to load. The grip also stays too thick for small fingers.
How do I measure my child for golf clubs at home?
Shoes off, back against a wall, and measure from the floor to the top of the head. Then measure from the wrist crease to the floor with the arms relaxed. Height gives you the size, and the wrist measurement decides between two sizes when your child sits on the border.
How much should a first golf set for a child cost?
Enough for real materials, not so much that you dread the growth spurt. A usable first set of three clubs and a bag sits between roughly 100 and 200 euro in Europe. Below that you usually get toy clubs with plastic heads that nothing hits properly.
How long will one size last?
Around eighteen months for most children between 3 and 5. Golf clubs do not need to be replaced every growth spurt the way shoes do, because the grip position gives you several centimetres of tolerance either way.
